Travel Off The Beaten Path at These Peculiar Tucson Destinations

Surrounded by rugged mountain ranges, spiky green cacti, and arid desert lies the city of Tucson. Considered Arizona's second largest populated city with over 1,000,000 people, Tucson continues to show impressive growth, second only to Phoenix. No longer "The Old Pueblo" of its classic nickname, it is now a popular destination with spectacular scenery and its own unique hot spots. Here are just some of the strange and wonderful sights you'll see near our apartments in Tucson.

1. Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures

Did you ever wish you could be a giant? Step inside the Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures and you'll feel like one. Founders Patricia and Walter Arnell wanted to create a place that celebrates miniature artwork and allows visitors to escape into three distinct realms composed of magic, history, and culture. With over 250 objects on display, you'll be captivated by the detail in each delicate piece and absorbed in the fantastical stories they inspire. It's a small world after all.

2. Diamondback Bridge

Constructed in 2002, the Diamondback Bridge is a journey into the belly of one of Arizona's native species -- the rattlesnake. Head through this long mesh-covered bridge and marvel at the craftsmanship of its snake-like features. A gaping jaw composed of support-beam teeth is situated at one end while a 30-foot tail stands tall at the other. Upon completion, you'll be greeted by the sound of a rattle bursting from hidden speakers.

3. Gallery in the Sun

What began in the 1950s as a home for artist Ettore "Ted" DeGrazia and his wife as well as his own personal showcase, this mission/gallery completed its construction and opened in 1965. Visitors can take in the scope and breadth of DeGrazia's southwestern-influenced work from watercolors, to sculptures, to ceramics, comprising over 15,000 originals. And every June 14, the gallery honors DeGrazia's birthday by giving away free cake and ice cream.
