Can A Nap Make You Smarter?
According to a study conducted at the UC, Berkeley, a midday nap might just make you a bit smarter. The study was conducted with the help of 39 college students, each of whom was asked to learn a series of new names and faces at noon and match the faces a few minutes later. The same test was then performed at 6 p.m. that same day. A group of the participants who took a nap at 2 p.m. performed better than those students who did not nap. In fact, the non-nappers even showed a decline in memory test scores. Researchers credit the nap with refreshing the brain, and they credit the study with showing that the brain's ability to absorb new information declines over the course of a typical day. When a person naps, that decline is reversed.
