The post Setting Resolutions You’ll Actually Stick To appeared first on Wasatch Property Mgmt. Blog.
]]>Set a specific goal
First things first, create a goal that is specific. Instead of saying something like, I want to be "happier" maybe set a goal that is less subjective. One example would be, "I want to stay hydrated by drinking 32 oz. of water a day" or "I want to be more mindful by journaling 3x a week".
Be realistic about your resolution
Set realistic goals for yourself and you'll be more likely to achieve them. Don't set a goal that is so far out of reach, that you'll give up early on. If it's not realistic to work out every day of the week, maybe start by deciding to work out 2-3 times a week.
Find someone to hold you accountable
Tell a friend your goals and ask them to hold you accountable. They can be there for you in moments of weakness or when you're not feeling motivated to follow through. If you have someone to hold you accountable, you will be more likely to follow thorugh.
Be kind to yourself
If you slip up on your goal, be kind to yourself. It's normal to have set backs but it's important to get back up and keep trying.
We hope thse tips are useful and that you're able to acieve all your goals in the new year!

]]>The post 3 Ways You Can Start Recycling appeared first on Wasatch Property Mgmt. Blog.
]]>So, what belongs in the trash, and what belongs in the recycling bin? Even though we are always developing new ways to recycle, there are still some basic guidelines on what can and cannot be recycled. The following is not a comprehensive list of what can and cannot be recycled, rather a list of some more common recyclable materials. Here are 3 ways you can start recycling today!
Paper Products
- Office paper, mail, and envelopes
- Paper bags
- Cardboard boxes (broken down)
- Magazines and Catalogs of any kind
Plastics
- Only plastics labeled with the recycling symbol (1
) through (7
) - Bottles (beverage, condiment, etc. Be sure to completely empty and wash bottles beforehand.)
- Containers (detergent, shampoo, etc. Be sure to completely empty and wash containers beforehand.)
- PVC (less than 1/2” thick)
Aluminum and Metal
- Food and beverage cans
- Aerosol cans (empty)
- Small scrap sheet metal
- Metal pots and pans
- Clean aluminum foil
All recycled items should be clean, dry, empty, and loose (not bagged). However, if bagging is necessary, you should ONLY use clear plastic trash bags. Clear bags are ones that you can see the waste through the bag.
Common Non-Recyclable Materials
* The State of Utah does not accept glass in your regular recycling bin. However, Atlas Disposal partners with a local glass recycling company in Salt Lake City.
It's a common misunderstanding that plastic Grocery bags are a recyclable item. Most grocery stores have a bin in which to return plastic bags for reuse.
Film plastics are not recyclable. Most grocery stores have a bin to return old film.
Styrofoam is one of the most unsustainable products as it is not recyclable and lasts forever in landfills. We suggest using paper-based products where possible.
You should not deposit Food scraps or food-soiled paper in a traditional recycling bin. [BW1] Organic waste can be separated and used for compost. (Even in an apartment you can compost! You can use the compost you produce to cultivate houseplants or patio greenery. Countertop food digesters create an excellent fertilizer for your plants!)
To help you remember where items go, download this recycling cheat sheet that tells you what can and cannot be recycled and what belongs in the trash.

]]>- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you’re sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using regular household cleaning sprays or wipes.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- If soap and water aren’t available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- The CDC doesn’t recommend that people who are well wear a face mask to protect themselves from respiratory disease.
- Avoid spitting in public.
- If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider.

]]>#1. Pothos
This plant is truly one of the hardest plants to kill. Pothos like to dry out between waterings, but don't leave it dry for too long because the leaves will wilt and eventually fall off. They're tolerant of all light conditions, even artificial office lights. These plants do well on top of bookshelves or cabinets. Their leaves will vine down the length of whatever you put them on top of. And the coolest part? Each cutting can be rooted in water to create more plants!
#2 Snake Plant
Snake plants are tolerant of low light and should be watered sparingly or it will rot. They’re another plant that is almost impossible to kill. Let your snake plant dry out between waterings and it will live a long and happy life. Snake plants can go weeks without water while holding their shape. They have a unique look to them which makes them a common statement piece in apartments.
#3. ZZ Plant
This plant might need the least amount of light of all the houseplants on this list, but they also don’t mind bright light either, making them extremely versatile. ZZ plants are a good choice for frequent travelers or for those that often forget to water their plants, as they can withstand infrequent waterings.
#4. Cast Iron Plant
Cast iron plants are known for their dark green leaves and nearly indestructible nature. This plant does not like direct light and prefers to live in the darker corners of your apartment. They also don’t like to be overwatered, so make sure the soil dries out between waterings.
#5. Rubber Plant
This plant likes bright, [indirect light](https://www.npr.org/2020/06/02/867887979/why-does-my-plant-look-sad-6-tips-for-raising-happy-houseplants). Rubber plants like fairly dry soil, so avoid overwatering. Like most of the plants on this list, rubber plants are a toxin remover and air purifier. Occasionally rotate your rubber plant to keep it growing evenly on all sides. If you don’t, it will grow larger on whatever side is facing the window.
#6. Spider Plant
Spider plants are another that do well in low light. They grow fast but don’t need a lot of room for their roots in whatever pot you’ve put them in, which means they do well in small spaces. They also do well as a hanging plant. This is another plant likes to dry out between waterings. Put your finger in the soil to determine if the dirt is dry. If the soil still feels a little moist, hold off on watering until it feels like it’s dried out.

]]>The post How to Plan the Perfect Staycation appeared first on Wasatch Property Mgmt. Blog.

#1. Do all the prep work beforehand.
Make sure your staycation is planned in advance so you don’t have to do any work while you’re in vacation mode. This includes things like cleaning and organizing so your home feels more like a hotel. The little details matter, too. Consider putting out fresh flowers, buying new sheets, a new staycation outfit, or whatever it is that will get you in a vacation state of mind. Make a schedule of activities that you’d like to complete before the end of your staycation. Even if you don’t follow the schedule exactly, it will still help ensure your time is spent doing activities you actually enjoy, rather than wasting time trying to think of what to do next.
#2. Pick a theme.
Picking a theme will help focus your staycation efforts. And, let’s be honest, a theme will make everything way more fun and creative! Some great theme ideas are: Spa Getaway, Summer Camp, European Villa, Food Tour, and whatever else you can come up with! Use playlists to set the scene. There are plenty of camping, European café, and relaxing spa playlists on Spotify. Additionally, there are endless virtual museum tours, YouTube yoga classes, and exciting new recipes online.
[Click here](https://www.pinterest.com/wasatchpremier/fun-staycation-inspiration/) to check out our Pinterest board for some creative ideas, virtual world tours, recipes, crafts, and more!
#3. Set a budget.
One way to set a staycation budget is to first think about how much money you’re saving by staying home as compared to taking a trip. Think about how much you can spend to achieve your ideal staycation while still saving. For example, if you normally spend $1,000 on a vacation, consider all you can do on a staycation with a third of that as your budget. Even $50 – $100 as a budget can help your staycation feel extra special. Put that money towards things like takeout at a new restaurant you’ve been wanting to try, a tent for your living room camping, ingredients for the new recipes you’re going to try, or products for some flawless spa pampering.
#4. Be a tourist in your own city.
You can be a tourist in your city by spending some time in nature or trying all the popular food and drink places around town. Go on that hike or bike trail everyone’s always talking about. Head downtown to pick up some food from the most popular spot in town. Consider trying the things that are well-known in your area that maybe you’ve never tried before because they’re too “touristy.” Oftentimes, things are popular for a reason. Or you might discover that something’s actually overrated, but at least you’ll have tried it. Maybe your town will surprise you and you’ll discover your new favorite spot!

#1. Create a Designated Work Space
Your physical space truly affects your mental space. That’s why it’s so important to designate a specific spot in your home to work from. It’s also important to make sure that space is clean and organized. If it’s not, it distracts your brain from focusing on your important tasks. Clean up your work space every night or in the morning before you start work, and you’ll be amazed how much more efficiently you work. If you get tired of sitting in the same spot for too long, then consider designating two work spots in your house. Perhaps you use your kitchen table in the morning and your desk in the afternoon. Don’t be afraid to try whatever works best for you!
#2. Make a Morning Routine
Everyone’s morning routine looks different. But one thing that’s important is setting a time you start work every day. You can also create a routine that leads up to starting your work day. Maybe that’s as simple as breakfast and a cup of coffee. Or a jog and a shower. It should be something that wakes you up and makes you feel ready to take on the day. That might mean working in pajamas isn’t for you. Some people feel more productive when they’re dressed for success. Some people shine when they’re in comfy clothes. It’s up to you. You can try different things and figure out what gets you feeling motivated to work.
#3. Schedule Breaks
When working from home, it’s important to follow your company’s break time policy. Breaks are an important way to reinvigorate your mind. Maybe that means going for a quick walk around your neighborhood or doing some yoga in your living room. Whatever it is, make sure you’re taking some time throughout the day to step away from your computer screen. If your breaks involve food, try to eat healthy so your brain don’t crash from junk food.
#4. Don’t Overlook Communication
It’s important not to overlook communicating with your team. Working remotely means you can’t pop your head into your boss’ office every time you have a quick question; or if you’re the boss, you can’t check on your team to make sure they’re staying on task. That’s why it’s important to schedule regular check ins to make sure everyone’s on the same page. Communicating with your team is a key factor in staying productive.

#1. Go outside or take a walk.
Whether you decide to take a walk or just sit and enjoy some fresh air, going outside can reinvigorate your brain. If you can, try to surround yourself with some nature. This could mean sitting under your favorite tree or taking a walk through the park. Studies have shown that being outside and unplugged from technology can help people improve their creative problem-solving skills. Being outside stimulates all five senses and helps energize your body and mind.
#2. Listen to music.
Music activates the areas of the brain that are responsible for creativity. Some music is better at boosting creativity than others, but it’s important to figure our what works best for you. Classical music has been found to do wonders for creativity. The Mozart Effect is the theory which demonstrates listening to Mozart can increase creativity and concentration. While Mozart might not be everyone’s cup of tea, music in general is a great tool to help you wake up the creativity center in your brain. If you have a hard time concentrating when listening to music, consider listening to music without words or set some time aside before starting work to jam out to your favorite tunes.
#3. Ask for help or have a conversation.
Asking for someone else’s opinion can be an enlightening way to find a solution to your creativity problems. Having a conversation can open you up to different perspectives that can spark new ideas. And when it comes to creativity, the more ideas, the better! A simple conversation with a coworker, friend, or loved one can be what you need to get your mind moving in the right direction.
#4. Write by hand.
In their book, “The Creativity Cure” , Carrie Barron, M.D. and Alton Barron, M.D. encourage leaving your computer behind when trying to get the creative sparks flowing. They say writing by hand inspires creativity in ways that typing just can’t. So, the next time you’re brainstorming, pick up a pen or write on a whiteboard to stimulate your creativity.
#5. Try again in the morning.
If you’re feeling drained and unable to move forward on a project, step away and try again in the morning. Give yourself some grace when you’re experiencing a creative block. A good night’s sleep can sometimes be all you need to finish whatever it is you’ve been stuck on. Sleep inspires and reenergizes the brains, which allows you to find new perspectives to spark your creativity.
